    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Few things affect profits and the overall health of a business more than lost time, lost productivity, and worker’s compensation costs associated with a work-related injury.  Occupational injuries, particularly musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), continue to create challenges for employers, workers, healthcare professionals and insurance companies.  Human Resource Officers play a key role in worker safety by: (1) being knowledgeable of applicable laws and regulations, (2) developing and executing hiring and return to work policies and procedures, (3) managing worker compensation cases for the employer, (4) facilitating return to work, (5) helping to ensure worker safety, and (6) handling legal issues.

In this presentation we will learn how to:

    • Identify and discuss the components of Occupational Medicine
    • Identify and discuss the methods to improve worker safety
    • Review national and NYS Bureau of Labor statistics for major industry subsectors
    • Review injury characteristics for major industry subsectors
    • Understand the role of the Human Resource Officer in promoting workplace safety
    • Identify ergonomic strategies to decrease the risk of repetitive motion injuries in desk-based personnel.
