    Attendees will leave this interactive training with guidance on the concept of unconscious bias and its effect on workplace dynamics, including leadership, hiring, evaluation, promotion, and general interpersonal communications. Attendees will be offered exercises to help them identify biases that may impede inclusivity in their workplaces, and identify strategies/best practices to: 

    • Create organizational buy-in
    • Create systems of accountability
    • Afford an equitable experience to those who work and engage with their businesses

    Speaker: Brittney Denley

    Brittney Denley, Esq. joined Vassar College in August of 2016 and serves as the College's Associate Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action/Title IX. 

    In this role, Denley investigates complaints of protected class based discrimination and harassment and sexual misconduct and monitors the College’s compliance with federal and state laws, (i.e. ADA §504 and §508, Titles IV, VI, VII & IX, The Clery Act, New York State Education Law Article 129-B, NCAA Board of Governors Policy on Campus Sexual Violence). On campus, Denley facilitates formal and informal grievance processes and advises on student conduct and employee conduct, hiring, and termination proceedings. She has also served on, and led  numerous committees focused on violence prevention and response, equity, and inclusive engagement for those employed and educated by the College.  Of note, Denley commissioned and trained Vassar inaugural cohorts of faculty “Equity Advisors,” to employ equitable and inclusive recruitment and hiring practices. 

    A native of Queens, New York, Denley earned her undergraduate degree from Duke University. She earned her juris doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she also served on the Executive Board for the Journal of Business Law and president of the Black Law Students Association. Additionally, she earned her Certificate in Management from the Wharton School Aresty Institute of Executive Education. She is trained in Advanced Commercial Mediation by the New York State Bar Association. Prior to joining Vassar she served as an Appellate Fellow with Children's Law Center, trial intern with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, judicial intern with the Honorable George B. Daniels (S.D.N.Y.).
