Other Reasons To Support the Student Chapter

“Interaction between student and professional members of SHRM serves the needs of both. Professional members can offer real-world advice and involve students in HR projects that enhance classroom learning. Professionals benefit from the new perspectives and fresh outlooks provided by students, and at the same time, can serve as mentors to upcoming professionals to maintain a cohort of high quality professionals."- Dr. Kristin Backhaus, Advisor of the SUNY New Paltz Management Association

"The professional SHRM chapters have a real opportunity to foster the Society's goal of advancing the profession by playing a key role in the support of student chapters. The students are the future of Human Resources. It is both a privilege and a responsibility to develop relationships with these student groups and serve their needs."- Annette Guido, SHRM Foundation Chairperson for New York State SHRM

“The benefits for MHHRA members to be involved with the student chapter include the ability to hire interns for their organizations, gain a fresh or "new" perspective from recent or upcoming graduates, and to develop a relationship which is twofold- students can gain a great understanding of "real life" HR and the HR professionals can benefit from the student perspective. In addition, students can ultimately become a future employee!”- Amy Hagerty, Past President of the Mid-Hudson Human Resource Association

“I am very proud of the great variety of practical business experiences of our faculty and the high quality and dedication of our students. Our ability to work with the business community to provide long- and short-term benefits is outstanding. Our great experiences from close association between the Mid-Hudson Human Resource Association (MHHRA) and the SUNY New Paltz Management Association clearly attest to the fact that it results in significant educational and practical benefits for both sides."- Dr. Hadi Salavitabar, Dean of the School of Business at SUNY New Paltz

“Smart human resource professionals know the importance of recruiting and developing the next generation of human resource leaders. SHRM student chapters such as the SUNY New Paltz SHRM student chapter are the best source for this talent. The students and recent graduates of the New Paltz SHRM student chapter are outstanding candidates. Their mastery of the HR body of knowledge has been proven in HR scholastic competition with other schools as well as on the job.”- Grant Schneider, Technology Director for New York State SHRM.
